The Witcher season 2 won’t premiere on Netflix until 2021, but fans are anxious to see what’s next from the show. Most of The Witcher season 2 is being kept secret, including new additions to the show’s cast. There’s still not a lot in the way of official information about The Witcher season 2’s cast, but a new rumor making the rounds suggests that the show’s second season may add a Game of Thrones star.
The rumor is that Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones, is joining the cast of The Witcher season 2. The evidence for this theory starts with a social media post from Stephen Surjik, who has been scouting The Witcher season 2 filming locations. In the post, Surjik tagged The Witcher stars Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra, as well as Hivju. It was then discovered by Redanian Intelligence that Hivju has started following Witcher accounts on social media, adding even more fuel to the fire.
As for who Hivju would be playing in The Witcher season 2, Redanian Intelligence speculates that he may be playing the role of Nivellen, a man who was cursed to look like a bear. It’s been reported in the past that Nivellen’s story, “A Grain of Truth,” will be adapted as part of The Witcher season 2, so it certainly is a possibility. However, we must stress that it’s entirely possible Hivju hasn’t been cast in The Witcher season 2 at all, so fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet.
If Hivju is added to The Witcher season 2 cast, he wouldn’t be the first Game of Thrones alumni to make the jump. For example, Jodhi May, who plays Queen Calanthe in The Witcher, previously played the role of Maggy the Frog in Game of Thrones. Francis Magee also appears as Yurga in The Witcher season 1’s final episodes, having previously appeared as Yoren in Game of Thrones‘ early seasons.
Beyond the cast, there are other connections between The Witcher and Game of Thrones as well. Vladimir Furdik, who played The Night King in Game of Thrones, worked on The Witcher season 1 as a stunt and fight choreographer.
Considering the connections that already exist between Game of Thrones and The Witcher, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Hivju join the cast for season 2, especially considering how popular his GoT character became by the end of the show.
The Witcher is available to stream now, exclusively on Netflix.
